It appears that one of the most popular daytime talk show host, Ricki Lake won’t be gearing up for another season. Lake’s second try as a daytime talk show host didn’t work out and the show is being cancelled due to low ratings.
“Ricki” was only able to garner 900,000 viewers in its short stint on TV and the network didn’t feel it was enough to keep backing the show with those numbers. Ricki Lake had one of the most popular trash talk shows back in the day that ran from 1993-2004.
“I am so proud of the shows we completed this season, sparking important conversations about everything from raising children to mental illness to suicide prevention to coming out,” Lake said in a statement to the press. “I’ll continue to be an active and passionate voice for subjects that are close to my heart through a variety of platforms.”
Lake focused on empowering women, healthcare updates and really steered clear from the controversial baby mama/baby daddy, hair weaving and trash topics. This may have been her downfall as fans from the old were looking for that raunchy past “Ricki Lake Show” drama that she had grown tired of doing.
However, good news for Steve Harvey and Katie Couric’s talk shows, both have been renewed for a second season. The Steve Harvey Show tops the ranks averaging 1.8 million viewers with Katie Couric just above him with 2.4 million viewers.
Harvey hasn’t been ashamed of touching on some controversial topics and has even shedded a few tears during episodes. He’s putting his all out there for the public to see who the real man is inside him. This is something he preaches to others to do each day we live our lives. It’s paying off greatly.
Ricki Lake and Anderson Cooper had a strong backing of fans but when the numbers aren’t huge and in the million lane, advertisers aren’t lining up to pay for commercial ad spots. Anderson Cooper still has his show Anderson Cooper 360 on CNN.
